Belarus: Prime Minister says IT sphere is national priority

The IT sphere is a national priority for the development of Belarus, Belarusian Prime Minister Sergei Rumas told the Digital Future of the Global Economy forum in Almaty on 31 Januarythe BelTA news agency reported.

“With the ambitious goal of creating an IT country, we took up the challenge of rebuilding the economy and putting it on a digital track,” said SergeiRumas, adding Belarus had developed infrastructure for the transmission, storage and processing of data in accordance with international standards, identification mechanisms, and modern means of protecting information.

One of the key areas is to create a Republican data centre, with more than 400 government agencies and organisations already making a phased transition to using the services of the Republican data centre and cloud platform, the Prime Minister said.

Rumas listed projects already implemented in Belarus, including electronic tax invoicing, a single automated electronic prescription system introduced for the Ministry of Health, and a system of interdepartmental electronic document management for the exchange of electronic messages between all government bodies and organisations on a single platform.
