Regional workshop on Broadband Mapping for Eastern partner countries
Date: 10/11/20
More than 50 officials from Eastern partner countries took part in a three-day online workshop on tools and applications for broadband mapping, which took place from 4-6 November, organised under the Technical Assistance and Information Exchange Instrument of the European Commission (TAIEX).
The aim of the Workshop was to share knowledge, experience and to suggest solutions for building a broadband infrastructure and services map, by using open source software, spatial data and a geographic information system.
During the workshop, experts from Slovenia and Croatia provided advice to participants on how to develop their own broadband service map, by using technical applications and data available in each of their countries. The workshop was also addressed by the Chairperson of the Independent Regulator Broadband (IRB) Expert Working Group (EWG) of the Eastern Partnership Electronic Communications Regulators Network (EaPeReg), and by the Lead Digital Development Specialist at the World Bank Group, who presented ‘Guidelines on broadband mapping for the Eastern Partnership Countries’.
The experts also provided guidance on the relevance of the tool for the development of digital ecosystems to support the promotion of investment and innovation, and on how to create and/or maintain broadband mapping tools.
