TruthTechThon hackathon on media literacy brings together 150 young Georgians
Date: 05/12/23
The TruthTechThon hackathon on 4 Dec 2023 gave 150 young people in Georgia the opportunity to create digital resources that enhance media literacy, combat disinformation and bolster the trustworthiness of information. Organised by the Media Development Foundation with EU support, the event aims to popularise the idea and practice of mindful and responsible consumption of information.
Three groups of talented young creators were awarded financial support to pursue their dreams of making an impactful change through innovation. The award ceremony was the start of their journey in transforming ideas into completed projects, which will be later offered to the general public, schools and educators interested in or working in the field of media literacy.
The first place was won by ‘EasyVerify’, an innovative tool that helps users to verify the authenticity of information with three clicks.
Second place went to ‘Natsarkekia’, a fun game that uses the storyline of a Georgian fairy-tale to teach school children about media literacy.
Third place was won by the ‘Open Evidence’ initiative, a machine learning tool for in-depth analysis of the media environment in Georgia, revealing current trends.
