EU and UNDP give Virtual Reality tool to Armenian police
Date: 24/11/23
Armenian police have a new Virtual Reality (VR)-based training tool for crime scene investigation thanks to the EU-funded ‘Accountable Institutions and Human Rights Protection in Armenia’ project. On behalf of the project, UNDP (the United Nations Development Programme) handed over the tool to the Police Educational Complex (PEC) on 22–23 November 2023 and provided training on how police officers work with the new tool, adapted to the Armenian context.
During the event, Konstantin Sokulskiy, UNDP Deputy Resident Representative in Armenia, noted the pivotal role of this cutting-edge technology in advancing learning methodologies for police officers. He said it was very important to integrate such sophisticated tools into the training curricula of the PEC as a crucial step towards the modernisation of law enforcement education in Armenia.
Further information
The transfer of the VR tools to the PEC is an integral component of the broader support provided for police reforms in Armenia under the ‘Accountable Institutions and Human Rights protection in Armenia’ project. The project is funded by the European Union and implemented by UNDP, UNICEF (United Nations Children’s Fund), UNFPA (United Nations Population Fund) and OSCE (Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe).
