Artificial Intelligence education in Armenia: HTI Ministry and FAST join forces
Date: 22/11/23
A new collaboration aims to advance education in artificial intelligence (AI) in Armenia. The Ministry of High-Tech Industry of the Republic of Armenia, headed by Minister Robert Khachatryan, and the Foundation for Armenian Science and Technology (FAST) signed a Memorandum of Cooperation on 20 November 2023. Other goals of the memorandum are to foster collaboration between sectoral companies and the educational system, and to cultivate a generation of competitive and innovative specialists.
FAST is a non-profit organisation dedicated to enhancing intellectual, financial and network capacities within the science and technology ecosystem in Armenia and beyond. The foundation provides a platform for fostering technological and scientific advancements in Armenia, represented by founding director Armen Orujyan.
The new memorandum outlines the commitment of both parties to effectively collaborate in the implementation of the ‘Generation of Artificial Intelligence’ project. This initiative, conducted by FAST in partnership with the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports of the Republic of Armenia, is part of the broader ‘AI Generation programme. Launched in 2022, this programme was already integrated into 16 school curriculums by September 2023.
Minister Robert Khachatryan underscored the ministry’s dedication to advancing AI in Armenia, emphasising that the programme provides students with the opportunity to study and develop practical ideas about AI from a young age.
Armen Orujyan highlighted the significance of technological development for Armenia, a country with limited resources, in maintaining competitiveness on the international stage.
Araksia Svajyan, Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports of the Republic of Armenia, acknowledged the substantial interest that the ‘AI Generation’ programme has generated among schools.
