Date: 29/02/24
The international ‘Child Safety Online’ forum was held in Chișinău, Moldova on 15–16 February 2024. The forum brought together international experts, European Union officials, representatives of the Romanian Senate, ministers from the Republic of Moldova, diplomats, ICT professionals, as well as civil society representatives. Participants discussed matters related to child protection on the internet.
One of the forum’s highlights was the ‘NGO Fair’—an exhibition showcasing resources, technologies and educational materials dedicated to online child protection. The fair provided a platform for an exchange of ideas and innovative solutions among organisations.
Key topics of the forum included:
Legislative initiatives and good practices at the EU and national levels to combat online sexual abuse and exploitation of children;
Relevant strategies and legislation drawn from Ireland’s experience in implementing an integrated approach to online child safety measures;
Cross-sector cooperation and law enforcement standards to combat online sexual abuse;
Implementation of the Digital Services Act and national priorities in the context of the EU accession agenda;
Digital education and the development of online safety skills for children, with a focus on EU policies;
Secondary prevention through measures targeting sex offenders, including the establishment of a national sex offenders register.
