New Moldovan ‘Med Safety’ app will help ensure drug safety

Health professionals and consumers of medications in the Republic of Moldova will be able to report adverse reactions to specific drugs using a new digital application, ‘Med Safety’. The Moldovan Agency for Medicines and Medical Devices (AMDM) launched the innovative app on 4 December 2023. This launch represents a crucial step for ensuring drug safety in the country.
At the launch event, the AMDM General Manager, Dragoș Guțu emphasised the importance of reporting adverse reactions, highlighting the essential contribution of the community in this process. Representing the World Health Organisation Country Office, Miljana Grbic, congratulated the AMDM team for this vital initiative, expressing support for strengthening drug safety.
Med Safety is a free smart phone app for reporting suspected adverse reactions or effects of drugs to National Competent Authorities. It is available in three languages and is simple to download and use.
The Med Safety app for Moldova is available through WEB-RADR and has already been downloaded more than 50,000 times since its launch.
The application was developed under the WEB-RADR project, supported by the Innovative Medicines Initiative Joint Undertaking (IMI JU) and funded by the European Union.
This initiative represents a significant commitment to improving drug safety in the Republic of Moldova and reflects the ongoing efforts of the AMDM and WHO in supporting public health.
