Prospects for Armenia–UK cooperation in the high-tech sector

The Minister of High-Tech Industry of Armenia, Mkhitar Hayrapetyan, met with John Gallagher, the Ambassador of the United Kingdom to Armenia on 29 January 2024. Hayrapetyan outlined the Ministry’s focus areas, including drafting a high-tech sector development strategy and legislation amendments. The broad scope for Armenia–UK cooperation was discussed, including relevant legislative changes and practical initiatives involving experts in the field.
Ambassador Gallagher commended Hayrapetyan’s appointment and highlighted the pivotal role of the tech sector in fostering government and business relations. He underscored the UK’s aspiration to be a tech powerhouse and the country’s interest in collaborating with countries possessing tech expertise.
Gallagher discussed the UK’s upcoming tech-related events and proposed that Armenia participate in ‘Fintech Week.’ Both officials agreed on the potential of such events to bolster bilateral cooperation in the tech industry.
Armenia has a skilled workforce and robust tech infrastructure, which have attracted major global companies. Hayrapetyan emphasised the opportunity for British firms to establish mutually beneficial partnerships in Armenia.
