The EU-Armenia Partnership Council recognises the impact of the EU4Digital and EaPConnect Projects
Date: 20/04/24
At the EU-Armenia Partnership Council’s fifth meeting in Brussels in February 2024, participants reviewed the implementation of their partnership, recognising EU4Digital and EaPConnect, and launched a new EU-Armenia partnership agenda.
During the meeting the EU4Digital programme’s work in Armenia supporting telecommunications, e-signature, e-commerce, e-skills and innovation was featured. The EaPConnect project under the EU4Digital umbrella, in particular, was noted for facilitating the connection of more than 52 Armenian research and education institutions to the EU.
Thanks to the EC’s backing through the EaPConnect project, Armenia seamlessly integrates its national research and education network, ASNET-AM, with the pan-European GÉANT network, including vital services such as eduroam, guaranteeing high-speed connectivity. This integration, which includes connecting major universities and research institutions, not only narrows the digital divide, but also enriches global collaboration prospects for the Armenian R&D community.

Armenia will also continue to benefit from upcoming EU4Digital programmes such as the building of a broadband project preparation facility in cooperation with World Bank and EU4Innovation East, which supports start-ups.
The meeting was chaired by the High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, while the Armenian delegation was led by Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia, Ararat Mirzoyan.
