Armenia’s GovTech and World Bank hold ‘Accelerating Digitalization’ workshop
Date: 23/01/24
An ‘Accelerating Digitalization’ workshop was held on 19 January 2024 in Yerevan in cooperation with the World Bank within the framework of Armenia’s ‘GovTech’ initiative. The workshop brought together representatives from the Information Systems Agency of Armenia, the Ministry of High-Tech Industry, along with experts in the field and other stakeholders. The discussions centred around: reinforcing broadband infrastructure; strategies for strengthening digital public infrastructure; and initiatives to build digital skills across Armenian society.
Armenia’s GovTech initiative represents an important step toward modernising public services. GovTech aims to expedite the public’s engagement with national and regional government services by simplifying and digitalising various business processes, such as notary services, obtaining building licenses and internal auditing in the public sector.
Under the motto “Strengthening Transparency, Accountability and Access to Public Services”, the primary objective of GovTech is to digitalise the identification process, streamline information flow and enhance information accessibility and security.
According to the World Bank, access to various public services in Armenia, particularly in rural areas, still requires a trip to government offices. Additionally, many citizens face challenges in utilising existing digital services, with only 5% of enterprises and residents currently taking advantage of online government services.
