‘Artificial Intelligence for Business’ conference in Yerevan highlights approaches to AI technology

Business representatives, innovative thinkers and IT experts met in Yerevan on 2 February 2024 to discuss the future of advanced AI at the ‘Artificial Intelligence for Business’ conference. Mkhitar Hayrapetyan, the Minister of High-tech Industry of the Republic of Armenia, addressed the relevance of AI technology in Armenia as well as worldwide. He discussed concerns about the potential of AI tools’ competing against human beings and suggested an alternative: concentrate on effectively utilising AI technology and investing in the relevant economic sectors.
Minister Hayrapetyan emphasised the importance of such conferences in identifying effective approaches to AI technology; participants were encouraged to look forward to the opportunities offered by the new technology. Hayrapetyan warned against a wait-and-see approach, cautioning that it could lead to the country’s falling behind technologically. He expressed confidence that overcoming fears around AI would make Armenia globally competitive. Vahan Kerobyan, the Minister of Economy, stated: “This conference is important for us because it matches with the main goal of our economic policy, which is the increase of productivity of work.”
Other speakers included the Deputy Chairman of the National Assembly Hakob Arshakyan, and the Chairman of the Central Bank Martin Galstyan. Presentations were made by Paolo Pirjanyan, the founder and CEO of Embodied and creator of the Moxie robot; McKinsey & Company partner Leonid Kirakosyan; and ABBY founder Davit Yan. The conference also included a panel discussion on the topic ‘Using Artificial Intelligence in Traditional Business.’
