Computer Aid delivers IT equipment to Ukrainian universities amid crisis
Date: 28/03/24
In a bid to bolster educational resources in Ukraine, Computer Aid, a UK-based charity, has embarked on an ambitious initiative to supply laptops to universities in collaboration with GÉANT‘s partner URAN, the Ukrainian national research and education network and successfully delivered 65 laptops in December 2023. The goal of this endeavor is to equip the academic community with essential tools for remote teaching, accessing online resources, conducting research, and fostering communication among peers.
Implementing such an initiative was not without its challenges. The equipment, 65 laptops and charging cables, was delivered to URAN’s Charitable Found in Kyiv on 15 December 2023. Gautier highlights the logistical hurdles faced in ensuring the safe and timely delivery of the equipment to Ukraine in his latest interview with EaPConnect.
The initiative began in June 2023, when Computer Aid was approached by GÉANT regarding the allocation of funds raised for URAN by the international research and education community. Leveraging connections established in Poland in response to the Ukrainian crisis, Computer Aid collaborated with local partners to facilitate the efficient delivery of the 65 laptops to Kyiv.
Computer Aid’s overarching goal is to narrow the digital divide by enhancing access to technology and enriching educational experiences. With a focus on sustainability and long-term impact, Computer Aid endeavors to create measurable results by tailoring projects to the specific needs of local communities.
Computer Aid remains committed to monitoring the impact of its initiative and gathering feedback from URAN to assess its efficacy. With plans to continue supporting Ukrainian universities with further donations in 2024, Computer Aid aims to foster lasting change and empower communities across borders.
