5G and ski! Georgia’s fifth-generation network expansion begins
Date: 28/03/24
December to March is the high season for skiing in Georgia, when tens of thousands of tourists visit the main resorts. With the arrival of the season, which lasts until May, Cellfie Mobile introduced 5G Internet in the country, starting with Bakuriani and Gudauri ski resorts, as well as the Didube and Didi Dighomi districts of Tbilisi.
Ekaterine Imadedze, a member of Georgia’s Communications Commission (ComCom), congratulated the company on the 5G launch, which she said was “the beginning of a historic stage for our country”. This is significant because the frequency resources that ComCom gave in the form of an auction in August 2023 and that Cellfie Mobile used to implement 5G correspond to the world standard and meet all the requirements that are necessary for the 5G network.
Cellfie Mobile won the opportunity to expand the country’s 5G network during the next 3-7 years. The 5G Internet was launched in pilot mode in Tbilisi on 21 November 2023 and was soon used by more than 5,000 subscribers. It was extended to the country’s selected ski resorts in December.
