Device Coalition donates 3,600 laptops for Ukrainian schoolchildren
Date: 20/03/24
Schoolchildren in the Kharkiv region of Ukraine received laptops to support their online learning. The Device Coalition, with financial support from the European Union, gave 3,600 laptops for students who are forced to study remotely due to the ongoing war in the region. This will help children to continue to access high-quality education.
Almost 2 million Ukrainian children continue to use online study as their only form of education, or in combination with limited classroom learning.. A significant number of them are forced to miss classes due to the lack of necessary equipment for learning.
The first to receive the equipment to aid their learning will be children from vulnerable categories, in particular those with the status of IDP (internally displaced person), with disabilities, from low-income families or those without parental care.
The equipment was purchased and transferred by one of the Coalition’s key partners, UNICEF, with the financial support of the Global Partnership for Education (GPE), as well as the European Union. Since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion in 2022, UNICEF has given 64,000 laptops to Ukrainian students and teachers. The organisation plans to transfer another 28,300 laptops by March 2024.
This year, the coalition aims to meet the device needs of children and teachers in 10 regions of Ukraine where remote learning predominates. The current critical demand is for over 96,000 devices for students to use, and more than 29,000 devices for teachers.
