EU Advisory Mission supports Ukrainian prosecutors with crucial IT equipment
Date: 20/01/24
The EU Advisory Mission (EUAM) to Ukraine handed over laptops and other donated IT equipment to Ukraine’s Prosecutor General, Andrii Kostin, in Kyiv on 17 January 2024. The equipment will support the daily work of the Office of the Prosecutor General (OPG) in time of war and improve the level of services provided to citizens.
The scanners and 60 laptops with cutting-edge software will reach the new Victims and Witnesses Coordination Centre, the Community Prosecutor Project, the Interagency Working Group of Military Experts, prosecutors focused on international crimes affecting the environment, the Department for the Protection of Children’s Interests and Combating Domestic Violence, the Criminal Policies and Investments Protection Department, and prosecutors coordinating Atrocity Crimes Advisory Group activities.
Additionally, power stations and solar panels will be provided to the regional prosecutor’s offices in Kyiv, Sumy, and Chernihiv, addressing the pressing needs in areas prone to frequent power cuts.
This support reflects EUAM Ukraine’s commitment to ongoing reforms in the country. Rolf Holmboe, Head of EUAM Ukraine, said that the delivery of IT equipment was a tangible expression of support for Ukraine’s endeavours in the realm of civilian security sector reform and “the OPG’s noble quest for justice for all the victims and survivors of this terrible war”. He stressed how, as part of the Atrocity Crimes Advisory Group, the Mission will continue providing support to the Office of the Prosecutor General in cooperation with partners from the UK, the USA, and other EU member states.
Prosecutor General Kostin responded: “I am sure that our long-term partnership will contribute to the further strengthening of the institutional capacity of the prosecutor’s office. And together we will be able to overcome all the obstacles on the way to restoring justice.”
