Date: 08/01/24
The Armenian national research and education network ASNET-AM has introduced a groundbreaking ‘Journal as a Service’ initiative using cloud computing resources established through the EU4Digital: Connecting Research and Education Communities (EaPConnect) project. The initiative integrates local cloud resources with an Open Journal System to address challenges in scholarly publishing, offering a tailored solution that aims to revolutionise the management of academic journals in Armenia.
Journal as a Service not only makes the publication process more efficient, but by utilising local cloud resources it also tackles infrastructure and maintenance issues. With nearly 30 active installations of open-source solutions for academic journals, ASNET-AM has demonstrated the reliability and effectiveness of the service.
Looking ahead, the initiative is not just about meeting current needs. By embracing technological advancements and addressing the complexities of open-source implementation, this service marks a significant step towards a more streamlined and effective future for academic publishing more widely. ASNET-AM envisions a future where Journal as a Service sets the standard for efficiency, customisation and technological innovation and helps shape the future of scholarly publishing.
