Regarding the bill, Dumitru Alaiba, Minister of Economic Development and Digitalization, said:
We are strengthening cybersecurity. In government, we have adjusted 23 sectoral laws in health, transport, banking, capital markets and more to align them with today’s requirements. However, as we digitalise service after service and establish a target of moving at least 75% of government business services online by the end of this year, we will inevitably need to protect our digital infrastructure.
The draft law is aimed at ensuring the harmonisation of Moldovan legislation with EU standards. It represents a decisive step in harmonising national legislation with the EU NIS Directive, strengthening Moldova’s position as a trusted partner of the EU.
In addition, the draft law outlines clear responsibilities for service providers. The bill stipulates that service providers in the abovementioned sectors are now required to implement robust cyber security measures with a detailed oversight and control structure.
The Ministry of Economic Development and Digitization emphasises that the changes will have a significant effect on how public and private organizations manage cyber risks. With these measures, Moldova will ensure a safe and secure digital space for its citizens.
