EU4Digital prepares for Ukraine–Moldova–Romania eCustoms pilot launch
To prepare for its upcoming trilateral pilot of eCustoms technology and processes, EU4Digital visited selected border crossing points (BCPs) in Ukraine, Moldova and Romania between 20-24 May 2024. The eCustoms pilot’s goal is to enhance cooperation between neighbouring countries' customs authorities, which is crucial for simplifying trade and optimising border procedures.

EU supports Moldova–Ukraine–Romania cross-border trading through EU4Digital eCustoms testing
Trading with one’s neighbours is important for any country. For EU candidate countries Moldova and Ukraine, being able to trade easily with European countries is of increasing importance. However, the customs offices are overloaded with cargo traffic. To address the problems, the EU is supporting the introduction and testing of the digital application SEED, in a new phase of EU4Digital eCustoms activities.

Key milestone in Ukraine-Romania-Moldova EU4Digital eCustoms pilot
The customs authorities of Ukraine, Moldova and Romania signed a trilateral Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on 29 April 2024, marking a key milestone in EU4Digital eCustoms activities and, ultimately, the smoother integration of Ukraine and Moldova in the European Union (EU) market. This agreement between the State Customs Service of Ukraine, the Romanian Customs Authority and the Customs Service of the Republic of Moldova sets the stage for collaborative testing of cross-border data exchange, as part of the EU4Digital Initiative objectives to facilitate trade and extend the benefits of the EU’s Digital Single Market to the Eastern partner countries.

Moldovan start-ups to benefit from EBRD €10 million GapMinder investment

Moldova progresses rules for eKYC remote identification of banking customers
The Republic of Moldova is a step closer to finalising primary legislation for the implementation of electronic know your customer (eKYC) technology for the remote identification of customers. Stakeholders from the banking sector participated in meetings to scrutinise recommendations and proposals related to eKYC. Representatives of the Association of Banks of Moldova (ABM) and the National Bank of Moldova (NBM) are strongly engaged in expediting the finalisation of the eKYC draft normative act.
