European Union strengthens Ukraine’s cyber resilience
Date: 24/04/24
By means of the European Peace Facility (EPF), the European Union is bolstering the cybersecurity capabilities of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU). With €3 million in EU funding, a cyber laboratory and fully equipped training facility—the cyber class—have been created within the framework of this project.
The cyber laboratory serves as an online platform for education, training, and research. Through the use of advanced technology, it allows users to create a virtual environment where trainees can practice timely responses to cyberattacks. This involves engaging in real-time simulations of both attack and defence scenarios, enabling AFU soldiers to hone their skills in stress management and vulnerability identification across various network systems.
The cyber class is a training room equipped with 15 workstations and the equipment necessary for conducting cyber defence training and exercises. The project also included the procurement, installation, and configuration of software and hardware security systems for the AFU, along with professional training.
For the past two years, the project has been led by the Electronic Governance Academy (eGA). The launch of the cyber laboratory and cybersecurity training sessions was implemented in cooperation with CybExer Technologies.
The entire eGA team and partners worked diligently to strengthen Ukraine’s cyber resilience and support the functioning of the Ukrainian digital society and government even during the war. We saw the high motivation of the Ukrainian military to acquire new digital skills and use the provided equipment to protect Ukrainian cyberspace.
