Registration open: House of Europe ‘Hatathon’ on digitalising cultural heritage
Museum and library staff, cultural workers, arts managers, tech specialists, Web developers and designers, creative entrepreneurs and anyone eager to share ideas and expertise are invited to participate in ‘Hatathon 5.0’ on 21–27 May 2024. This online ideathon and training programme gathers specialists and activists to generate new approaches and tools for digitalising, documenting and preserving the tangible and intangible cultural heritage of Ukraine.

EU4Digital publishes Eastern Partnership start-up ecosystem report
EU4Digital Facility has published a study report that maps and diagnoses the start-up ecosystem in the Eastern Partnership (EaP). Produced by the EU4Digital ICT Innovation stream, the report defines the concept of high-performing incubation, presents analysis of the current situation and provides recommendations for the development of associated support programmes in the partner countries – Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Republic of Moldova and Ukraine. The report is available online and feedback is invited.

European Investment Bank’s EU for Ukraine Fund finances first project
The EU for Ukraine Fund, managed by the European Investment Bank (EIB), approved a EUR 25 million investment in Ukraine’s equity growth fund on 4 December 2023, aimed at strengthening small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Ukraine and Moldova. The funding primarily targets asset-light, human capital-rich, export-oriented technology companies, building on the region’s rich engineering talent base.

Artificial Intelligence education in Armenia: HTI Ministry and FAST join forces
A new collaboration aims to advance education in artificial intelligence (AI) in Armenia. The Ministry of High-Tech Industry of the Republic of Armenia, headed by Minister Robert Khachatryan, and the Foundation for Armenian Science and Technology (FAST) signed a Memorandum of Cooperation on 20 November 2023. Other goals of the memorandum are to foster collaboration between sectoral companies and the educational system, and to cultivate a generation of competitive and innovative specialists.

Armenia–Malawi cooperation in digital for research and education
The Armenian national research and education network (NREN) ASNET-AM has become a 6-month ‘twin’ with its Malawian counterpart MAREN. New Moldovan platform aids food recovery and redistribution, reduces waste
The Food Bank of Moldova with the assistance of the European Union unveiled the online platform Donezalimente.md on 14 November 2023. The platform represents an innovative digital project to reduce food waste by streamlining the process of recovering food from economic agents in the agri-food chain and redistributing it to social canteens and other social services.
