Azerbaijan research and education network AzScienceNet at RIPE87 world internet meeting

Internet service providers, telecommunication companies and network operators from around the world met at theRIPE87 meeting in Rome on 27 November–1 December 2023. Among them, EU4Digital: Connecting Research and Education Communities (EaPConnect) project partner AzScienceNet Network Operation Centre represented Azerbaijan’s research and education community.
Organised by RIPE NCC, the Network Coordination Centre that supports the RIPE (Réseaux IP Européens) community and the wider internet community, the event brought together around 730 online and on-site participants to share experiences, latest developments and best practices in the field of internet networking.
AzScienceNet’s executive director, Rashid Alakbarov, and the head of the AzScienceNet Network Operation Centre, Babak Nabiyev, attended the event. They actively participated in discussions about the policies and procedures used by RIPE NCC to allocate internet number resources to internet service providers and other organisations in its role as the regional internet registry for Europe, the Middle East and parts of Central Asia. They also joined working group sessions to discuss current technical and policy issues and to exchange knowledge and best practices with experts from many organisations around the world. The working group sessions covered a range of topics such as database, open source, Domain Name Systems (DNS), IPv6 (internat protocol version 6), Internet of Things and more.
