Georgia’s Communications Commission takes part in European 5G Conference

Georgia’s Communications Commission took part in the European 5G Conference held in Brussels on 30–31 January 2024. The main themes of the event included: an overview of the actions directed toward the harmonisation of the 5G spectrum within the EU; the promotion of investments in the telecommunications sector; and the strengthening of the ‘Digital Single Market’ strategy.
The status of the ‘Digital Decade Goals’ for 2030, the results of the World Radiocommunication Congress WRC-23 and plans to develop 6G technology were also discussed. In the format of panel discussions, presentations were made on: the spectrum allocation strategy for the fifth and subsequent generations of networks on the EU and national levels; the promotion of investments in innovative telecommunication models; as well as the security and sustainability of networks.
The European 5G Conference has been held annually since 2016 with the aim of developing the telecommunications industry and 5G ecosystem in Europe. This year the event was opened by Renate Nikolay, Deputy Director General of Communication Networks, Content and Technologies of the European Commission. Other notable attendees were: Tonko Obuljen, chairman of the European Regulatory Authority for Electronic Communications (BEREC); representatives the European Parliament’s Telecommunications and Technology Department; the Policy Director of the Global Mobile Communication Systems Association (GSMA); and company representatives from Ericsson, NOKIA, Vodafone, Orange and Telefonica.
