Registration open: House of Europe ‘Hatathon’ on digitalising cultural heritage
Museum and library staff, cultural workers, arts managers, tech specialists, Web developers and designers, creative entrepreneurs and anyone eager to share ideas and expertise are invited to participate in ‘Hatathon 5.0’ on 21–27 May 2024. This online ideathon and training programme gathers specialists and activists to generate new approaches and tools for digitalising, documenting and preserving the tangible and intangible cultural heritage of Ukraine.

EU Advisory Mission supports Ukrainian prosecutors with crucial IT equipment
The EU Advisory Mission (EUAM) to Ukraine handed over laptops and other donated IT equipment to Ukraine’s Prosecutor General, Andrii Kostin, in Kyiv on 17 January. The equipment will support the daily work of the Office of the Prosecutor General (OPG) in time of war and improve the level of services provided to citizens.

New working group proposed to advance Armenia’s digital transformation
Armenia’s Prime Minister called for the creation of a national working group to address the country’s digital sector challenges and policies, following a consultation on 15 December 2023. Representatives of about 30 large IT companies met with government officials to discuss the issues and assess policies for the sector’s development.

Large-scale hacker attack disrupts operations of the biggest Ukrainian mobile operator
Ukraine’s leading mobile phone provider, Kyivstar, suffered a large-scale hacker attack on 12 December 2023. With over 24.3 million clients, the company serves more than half the country’s population. Their loss of phone and internet connectivity is a serious issue in a country where many rely on mobile phones for air raid alerts. Within a week, all services were restored.

Eastern Partnership Foreign Affairs Ministerial meeting highlights digital
Connectivity, regional roaming and the digital transition were among the topics discussed in the Eastern Partnership (EaP) ministerial meeting on 11 December 2023. This event brought together foreign ministers of EU countries and their counterparts from five of the six Eastern partner countries (Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine). The event provided an opportunity to exchange views on the Eastern Partnership, take stock of its achievements and identify concrete recommendations for the future of the policy.

CDTO Campus: training digital transformation leaders for Ukraine
Ukraine launched the CDTO Campus project on 28 November 2023, to boost digital transformation throughout the country. Ukraine was one of the first countries in the world to introduce the post of Chief Digital Transformation Officer (CDTO) in government ministries and at regional level. This strategic new project will train civil servants working in the field of digital transformation and provide the state with specialists qualified to lead and implement digital reforms.

EU and UNDP give Virtual Reality tool to Armenian police
Armenian police have a new Virtual Reality (VR)-based training tool for crime scene investigation thanks to the EU-funded ‘Accountable Institutions and Human Rights Protection in Armenia’ project. On behalf of the project, UNDP (the United Nations Development Programme) handed over the tool to the Police Educational Complex (PEC) on 22–23 November 2023 and provided training on how police officers work with the new tool, adapted to the Armenian context.
