New EU4Digital Academy offers Eastern Partnership citizens and enterprises training
Date: 09/04/24
EU4Digital Facility has launched EU4Digital Academy, a digital learning programme bringing free and accessible digital skills training to the Eastern partner countries. EU4Digital Academy provides user-friendly, web-based courses tailored to the needs of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and citizens of countries in the Eastern Partnership region – Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine.
Michael Erixon, Business & Technology Consultant at EY, who’s been leading work to develop and the launch the EU4Digital Academy says that digital skills are no longer a specialised or exclusive skillset; in today’s world they are fast becoming a necessity.
The digital revolution of the past 10 years has made it essential to be able to navigate a variety of technologies and devices. Fully engaging in modern life and participating in the digital economy depend upon such skills.
Michael Erixon, Business & Technology Consultant, EY
There is a host of new related fields, opportunities and markets to explore, for businesses and individuals alike, Erixon explains. “Such reasons were precisely why the EU4Digital Academy was born.”
Access to training programmes that improve digital skills should be available to everyone who needs them.
Michael Erixon, Business & Technology Consultant, EY
Through the EU4Digital Academy online learning platform — formerly communicated as the EU4Digital EdTech Hub initiative — SMEs and citizens of Eastern partner countries will be able to improve their digital skills. They can take courses that provide EU-specific learning content that is localised to their country’s national context and language. And they will benefit from the opportunity to gain an EU-aligned micro-credential, called a badge. Each badge can then be displayed on social media or a CV to serve as verifiable proof of the new skills and knowledge gained.
Platform home and growth
On the technical side, in the short term, EU4Digital Academy will call the atingi platform home. The values of atingi, which is implemented by the German Development Agency (GIZ), closely mirror those of EU4Digital Academy, as it focuses on providing locally-relevant learning opportunities that address critical employment and educational skill gaps in emerging markets. EU4Digital Academy will be able to iteratively develop the programme concept, the learning content, and absorb best practices for e-learning / edtech platform development. In the longer term, the goal is for EU4Digital Academy to transition to a more permanent and standalone solution.
First course open!
The first course to be launched on EU4Digital’s new edtech platform is on ‘eCommerce in EU Marketplaces’, tailored to Ukrainian participants. It is available on the EU4Digital Academy in Ukrainian and English, and is available in mobile format.
Further ‘eCommerce in EU Marketplaces’ courses are being prepared for Moldova, Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Georgia and will become available through the EU4Digital Academy in 2024. These courses will be tailored to the specifics of each country and will be delivered in both English and the relevant local language.
