Key milestone in Ukraine-Romania-Moldova EU4Digital eCustoms pilot
The customs authorities of Ukraine, Moldova and Romania signed a trilateral Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on 29 April 2024, marking a key milestone in EU4Digital eCustoms activities and, ultimately, the smoother integration of Ukraine and Moldova in the European Union (EU) market. This agreement between the State Customs Service of Ukraine, the Romanian Customs Authority and the Customs Service of the Republic of Moldova sets the stage for collaborative testing of cross-border data exchange, as part of the EU4Digital Initiative objectives to facilitate trade and extend the benefits of the EU’s Digital Single Market to the Eastern partner countries.

EU4Digital hosts first training for Eastern Partnership innovation clusters
Around 85 representatives of 70 innovation clusters and emerging cluster management organisations from the Eastern Partnership (EaP) joined an EU4Digital Facility capacity-building and networking event on 18 April 2024. The EU4Digital ICT Innovation stream gathered participants from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Republic of Moldova and Ukraine for the special training event, which is part of EU4Digital’s new innovation clusters activity announced earlier in April.

Ukraine helping to develop the European Digital Identity Wallet
Ukraine has joined a pilot of the European Digital Identity Wallet (EUDI). Along with 19 European Member States, Ukraine is part of the POTENTIAL consortium, which launched a pilot in May 2024 and must present national ‘wallets’ to the EU within 24 months, completing prototyping by April 2025. This is after the European Parliament voted to create a legislative framework for EU digital identification in February 2024.
